CRUISE LINE CANCELLATION AND TRANSFER POLICIES DURING

CORONA VORUS (COVID 19) OUT BREAK

UPDATE

During the ongoing Corona Virus (Co-vid 19) outbreak many of the cruise lines are responding to guest concerns by amending their cancellation and transfer of bookings policies.  This is in order to give guests peace of mind and greater flexibility.  In order to help you below is a summary of these policies.  Whilst we will endeavour to maintain accuracy with updates, as you can imagine in the current situations policies may change rapidly without notice so please check with the individual cruise lines for the latest news.

 

Cunard

As you have probably seen in the news and social media, Cunard have now suspended all sailings until 1 November 2020 for

Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria. Cunard have cancelled Queen Elizabeth voyages until 23 November 2020.  All Queen Elizabeth Alaska cruises for 2020 have been also cancelled.

 

As of 19 March 2020 Cunard amended their cancellation and transfer policy which is applicable to their guests travelling before 31 August 2020.  Guests will be credited with a 125% Future Cruise Credit.  The Future cruise Credit can be redeemed up until 31 December 2021 for any sailing up until 31 March 2022.  Alternatively you can use the FCC for an upgrade to an existing booking.  You can also apply for a 100% refund via the Cunard website.

If guests wish to keep their existing booking and sail as planned, they will be offered between $150 and $900 on board spending money dependent on the length of their cruise.  This is added to the lead passengers on board account.

If a passenger is due to travel before 31 August 2020 they can if they wish transfer their booking, they can do up to 48 hours before the sail date.  Cunard will apply a Future Cruise Credit worth 110% if a guest has paid in full. 

If a guest has a booking due to sail after 31 August 2020 they can transfer to a later date before the balance due date with no fees.

If a guest is due to sail before 31 August 2020 they have 2 options.  They can cancel up to 48 hours before and receive a future cruise credit to the value of 110% if they have paid the balance or their deposit alternatively  a guest can cancel under the original terms and conditions and be subject to the fees set out in the original terms and conditions. 

 

P and O Cruises

P and O cruises have cancelled all sailings until 15 October 2020.

 

Guests affected by the suspension will be notified directly by P and O Cruises and have a choice of a 125% Future Cruise Credit or they can apply for a 100% Cash refund by following a link on the email or P and O website. The Future cruise Credit can be redeemed up until 31 December 2021 for any sailing up until 31 March 2022.  Alternatively you can use the FCC for an upgrade to an existing booking.

 

As of 19 March 2020 P and O Cruises amended their cancellation and transfer policy which is applicable to their guests travelling before 31 August 2020.

FCCs may now be used to upgrade or for a second cabin for any booking in 2021 or 2022 (holiday departure period currently on sale) and also may be gifted or transferred to someone else. This option too will apply to further out departures as and when they go on sale, until as stated above, the end of December 2021.

 

If a guest has a booking due to sail after 31 August 2020 they can transfer to a later date before the balance due date with no fees.

If a guest is due to sail before 31 August 2020 they have 2 options.  They can cancel up to 48 hours before and receive a future cruise credit to the value of 110% if they have paid the balance or their deposit alternatively  a guest can cancel under the original terms and conditions and be subject to the fees set out in the original terms and conditions.

 

Saga

Saga announced they have suspended Ocean cruises until 1 September 2020.  Guests are being offered a Future Cruise Credit worth 125% of what you paid if you were due to sail between 1 May 2020 and 1 June 2020, 115% if you were due to sail between 1 June 2020 and 1st July 2020 and 110% if you were due to sail between 1 July 2020 and 1 August 2020.  I am awaiting confirmation of what the value of the Future Cruise Credit will be.  The future cruise credit will last for 24 months  from the date of the cancelled cruise.  If you are unable to use that cruise credit in that time frame Saga will automatically refund 100% of the amount you paid via your agent or directly if you booked via Saga directly.

 

If you decide to transfer your holiday to another date your SAGA travel insurance policy will be transferred with your booking and will continue to cover Corona Virus.

 

Alternatively if you want to cancel, in line with ABTA guidance Saga will provide you with a 100% refund credit note valid until 31 July 2020 to the value of what you paid.  If you have not used your credit note by 31 July 2020 you can exchange it for a cash refund.

 

Disney Cruises

Disney have suspended their cruise programme on Disney dream and Disney Fantasy until 28 July 2020.  Their Alaska Cruises have been cancelled now until 31 October 2020.  Disney's departures from Canada are cancelled until 14 September 2020 and European sailings are cancelled until 2 October 2020.

 

Disney are offering affected guests who have paid a choice of a Future Cruise credit worth 125% or full refund.  Guests choosing a full refund must apply through the link on the email sent to affected guests. 

 

The FCC is only valid for sailings departing until 2022. The original reservation must be paid in full to be eligible for the FCC. The FCC is applied per person and is non-transferable, non-refundable and has no cash value and may be divided across multiple sailings. Standard prevailing rates apply, and Guests are responsible for any balance due after the FCC has been applied. If Guests end up not being able to use the FCC, they will be eligible for a refund up to the amount of the original voyage fare plus the cost of the Vacation Protection Plan, if applicable.

 

Costa Cruises

Have cancelled all sailing until 31 July 2020.  Guests who have had their cruise cancelled will receive a voucher for a full refund.

 

The new cancellation policy allows guests who have booked their cruise by 31 May 2020 the option to cancel their cruise up to 48 hours before and they will receive a 100% future cruise credit.   The new cancellation policy applies to all Costa departures up to 30 November 2020. 

 

The future cruise credit voucher is valid for 12 months from date of issue.

 

Crystal

River cruises are suspended until 6 September 2020.  Crystal have cancelled all New England and Canada cruises for 2020 on Crystal Serenity.  Crystal serenity is reported to be moving down to the Caribbean where it is reported she will be sailing from October to December.  All Crystal Endeavour cruises for 2020 have been cancelled.  All Crystal Symphony cruises through August have been cancelled.  Crystal Yacht Esprit cruises have been cancelled until 2 August 2020.

 

Guests affected by these cancellations are offered 125% Future Cruise Credit or 100% refund.


Scenic Cruises and Emerald Waterways

Scenic Cruises  Group have suspended all river cruise sailings until 31 August 2020. Scenic Eclipse sailings have been suspended until 30 September 2020. Guests who have the cruise cancelled have a choice of a Future Cruise Credit worth 110% of the booking valid for 24 months or a refund. 

 

FRED OLSEN

Fred Olsen Cruise line have released a Booking Reassurance Guarantee.  This allows guests to cancel their cruise in return for a Future Cruise Voucher without penalty for another cruise within the same year.  This applies to all new cruise bookings  between 4 March 2020 and 28 May 2020.

 

All passenger who book a 2020 Fred Olsen Ocean Cruise or 2020 Brabant River Cruise are able to cancel their cruise in return for a Future Cruise Credit Voucher for the entirety of the monies paid to date providing you give at least 14 days notice prior to sailing.  The voucher must be used on a later 2020 sailing.

 

Fred Olsen have applied this guarantee to the newly launched 2021 / 2022 brochure sailings too.

 

Fred Olsen have cancelled all cruises until at least 28 July 2020 for ocean cruises and Brabant has been cancelled until at least

19 July 2020.

 

MSC Cruises

 

MSC have suspended their cruise programme fleet wide until  31 July 2020.  Guests affected by this suspension will be offered a 125% Future Cruise Voucher.  These Future Cruise  Vouchers must be used by 31 October 2020 but you will be able to use it for all MSC Cruises through to the end of 2021.  Should you wish to apply for 100% refund you will be able to do this from 31 July 2020 and it is expected that the process could take up to 60 days.

 

MSC have also cancelled Armonia sailing from Tampa 2 May 2021 to 31 October 2021 and MSC Divina from Miami 28 March 2021 to 22 August 2021 and from New York between 3 September 2021 and 23 October 2021. Guests affected by these cancellations will be notified of their options and have 60 days to decide on their choice.  Guests can choose between transferring to another cruise or refund.

 

MSC have amended their cancellation policy allowing cruise guests to cancel existing bookings for sailings that depart before 31 July 2020 up to 48 hours prior to departure and they will get a future cruise credit for the amount they have paid.  The Future Cruise Credit can be applied to any future MSC Cruise departing before 31 December 2021.  This policy applies to new booking for cruises departing on or before  31 July 2020.

 

It is important to note final and full payment must be made on a cruise departing prior to 31 July 2020 to qualify for this Cruise Assurance Program.

 

Norwegian Cruise Line

 

 

 

 

Norwegian Cruise Line announced that they are cancelling all sailings up until 31 August 2020.  They are also cancelling all cruises from 1 September until 30 September except for Seattle based Alaska cruises on Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss which continue to be scheduled to sail.  Norwegian Cruise Line have said that they “are hopeful that through the support of the Alaska Delegation and openness of the mayors of Alaska Port Towns, we have the potential to resume voyages in September.”

 

In addition to the above cancellations all voyages to Canada / New England and cruises embarking in Vancouver have been cancelled throughout October.

 

Guests affected by these cancellations will automatically receive the refund in the form of a 125% Future Cruise Credit.  Those who prefer a monetary refund back to their original payment method may apply for a 100% refund via the NCL website between 1400hours on 6 July 2020 and 1400hours on 24 July 2020.

 

 

 

 

 

Royal Caribbean Group including Celebrity and Azamara

The Royal Caribbean Group of cruise lines have now extended the suspension of cruise operations through to 31 July 2020.  They have now suspended all Alaska Cruises, Hawaiian Cruises and Canada & New England Cruises until 31 October 2020 due to Canada banning Cruise Ships until 31 October 2020. Guests affected by the cancellation of the latest batch of Alaska and New England & Canada suspensions will automatically receive  a 125% Future Cruise Credit valid until 31 December 2021 to book for cruises sailing before 4 May 2022.  Guests also have the option of a 100% refund anytime up to 31 December 2020.

 

Royal Caribbean have cancelled all China cruises through June 2020 and on further review they have decided to extend this through until 12 July 2020 for Quantum of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas.   Voyager of the Seas has been suspended  through September 2020.

 

Due to the Danish Government restriction on non essential travel until 31 August 2020  Therefore Brilliance of the Seas departure on 21 August 2020 and Jewel of the Seas departure on 8 August 2020 have been cancelled.

 

For those who were due to sail between 12 June 2020 and 31 July 2020 and not cancelled under the Cruise with Confidence now have the following options.

Lift and Shift
This option is great if you just want to move their cruise until next year.   Your original price and promotion is protected.  All you need to do is select the same itinerary, cruise length and within the same 4 week window.  This offer expires on 10 June 2020.

125% Future Cruise Credit

You are eligible for a 125% Future Cruise Credit based on the total cruise fare paid at the guest level. These will be issued on or before 30 June 2020 if neither of the other options has been selected.  The taxes and fees, as well as any pre-purchased on board packages and amenities will be refunded separately at 100% back to the original form of payment within 45 days.

If you previously opted to take advantage of the Cruise with Confidence policy, the 100% FCC stands, and therefore the new option is not available to you.   In addition if you redeemed  your Cruise with Confidence Future Cruise credit on a sailing that is now cancelled your original FCC will be reinstated, plus 125% of any amount you paid on the the cancelled reservation.

Royal Caribbean offers the option to claim a refund of 100% of the amount you paid. This has to be done before 31 December 2020.  You can expect your refund to the original form of payment  within 45 days.

 

 

Carnival Cruise Line

 

Carnival have announced that they have now cancelled all their cruises until 1 August 2020.  They have also cancelled all 2020 San Francisco cruises, Carnival Sunrise sailings until 19 October 2020 and New York Sailings until 31 December 2020, all Carnival Legend sailings are cancelled until 30 October 2020 and all Carnival Radiance cruises are cancelled until 1 November 2020.  Carnival are contacting passengers affected by these cancellations. The email will have all the instructions you need to claim your cancellation offer or refund.  They are currently offering for cancelled cruises of 6 days or more  a 100% Future cruise credit plus $600 per cabin on board credit.  For cancelled cruises of 5 days or less they are offering  a 100% future cruise credit plus $300 per cabin on board credit. Future cruise credits have to be used by 31 December 2020 and can be used for cruises sailing before 31 December 2022.

 

Alternatively they offer a 100% refund. 

 

They advise that due to the high volume of calls the quickest way to claim is via the link in the email.

 

Sea Dream

They have currently suspended cruises to all but Norwegian Guests.  They are contacting guests to offer the current options.

 

Celestyal Cruises

Celestyal Cruises have suspended their sailings until 30 July 2020.

They have introduced a Peace of Mind policy as a response to the crisis. This will cover bookings between now and 30 June 2020 so guests can alter plans up to 7 days before their sail date without incurring cancellation fees.  They will receive a 100% future cruise credit.  The same applies to new bookings up until 30 April 2020. 

All named and fully paid guests on the cancelled cruises are being offered either a future cruise credit 0f 120% of the original booking value or a refund of 100% of the original cruise fare paid.  Guests have until December 31 2021 to use their future cruise credit.  Anyone who has not used their future cruise credit within the time specified will automatically once it has expired receive a refund equal to the original amount the guest has paid.

 

Oceania Cruises

 

Oceania extended their suspension of sailings until 30 September 2020 plus the following Alaska and Canada & New England cruises:

 

Regatta – 10 August 2020, 24 August 2020, 31 August 2020, 10 September 2020, 22 September 2020, 30 September 2020

 

Insignia – 1 August 2020, 15 August 2020, 30 August 2020, 11 September 2020, 26 September 2020, 6 October 2020, 16 October 2020, 26 October 2020

 

Nautica – 5 August 2020, 23 August 2020, 14 September 2020, 28 September 2020

 

Marina – 7 August 2020, 17 August 2020, 29 August 2020, 8 September 2020, 22 September 2020

 

Riviera – 2 August 2020, 12 August 2020, 22 August 2020, 1 September 2020,

 

8 September 2020, 20 September 2020

 

Sirena – 9 August 2020, 19 August 2020, 31 August 2020, 7 September 2020, 14 September 2020, 24 September 2020

 

Affected guests have the choice of a 100% monetary refund or 125% Future Cruise Credit.  They also have a list of like for like 2021 sailings if you wish to transfer.

 

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

 

Regent Seven Seas have extended their suspension through to 30 September 2020.  In addition all 2020 Canada and New England Cruises have been suspended. 

 

Affected guests who have paid in full will automatically receive a 100% (less Government Taxes and Fees if applicable) plus a bonus 25% Future Cruse Credit.  These future Cruise Credits are valid for a year from issue date and valid towards all voyages through to 31 December 2020. 

 

Guests that have paid in full who prefer a 100% refund must submit a refund request online at their website before 30 June 2020.  If you fail to apply by that date you will not be eligible for a refund.  So ensure if you want a monetary refund you apply before the deadline.

 

Guests who have not paid in full by 30 June 2020 will automatically receive a 100% refund for the amount they have paid within 90 days no refund request on line will need to be made.  Plus they will also receive the price match opportunity on comparable voyages in 2021.

 

Viking Cruises

 

Viking Cruises have cancelled all ocean and river cruises in 2020.  Viking are offering a future cruise voucher worth 125% of money paid for cruises cancelled in this period or a 100% cash refund. Future Cruise Credit will be valid for 24 months.  Any Future Cruise Credit not used in the 24 month period will be automatically converted to cash refund of the price originally paid.  Alternatively you can apply to  your travel agent by 6 April for a 100% refund of monies paid.

 

Aida

 

Aida have suspended all operations until 31 July 2020 and are offering guests a 110% Future Cruise Credit.

 

Aurora

Have suspended operations until 31 October 2020

 

 APT

 APT have cancelled all river cruises until 31 July 2020.  Affected clients who have paid the full balance will receive a future holiday credit equal to 100% of the holiday value.  Clients who have only paid the deposit can have their deposits held with no fees to book a future river cruise or holiday.

 

The Credit is valid for travel on any APT or Travelmarvel river cruise, tour or holiday until the end of 2021. Credit can be used on multiple bookings if desired for the original guest.

 They are allowing deposited bookings to be changed to later in 2020 or 2021 for a small fee plus any charges passed on by airlines and third party suppliers.

 

 However I understand this is subject to review and fluid dependent on circumstances.  So do check with APT for current situation as it applies to you.

 

Avalon Waterways

Avalon Waterways  have suspended all their river cruises through to 31 August 2020.  They have introduced a Peace of Mind Plan for guests whose holidays have been impacted.  They are offering future cruise credits worth 100% of the cruise fare plus £150 bonus or a credit note for a 100% refund.

 

Uniworld

Uniworld have cancelled all European itineraries until 30 June 2020.  They are offering  guests the opportunity to rebook on any 2020 or 2021 river cruise or they can have a future cruise credit that is valid for 24 months.


Windstar

All Windstar cruises have been cancelled until 30 June 2020.  Guests on the cancelled cruises can choose either a 125% future cruise credit or refund equal to the amount paid to Windstar.  Guests will have 24 months to use their future cruise credit.


Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages have postponed the inaugural season until 15 October 2020. The official Maiden Voyage will take place on 16 October 2020.  They are offering guests affected by the delay a 200% future cruise credit which can be used to rebook a new cruise.  In addition guests who rebook by 30 June will get a $500 on board credit.   However if guests want a refund they can have one and will get a 25% future cruise voucher for a future cruise. If guests rebook before 30 June 2020 they will receive up to $500 Onboard spending.


Hurtigruten

 

Hurtigruten have resumed Norwegian Coastal Cruises for Norwegian Residents only.

 

Hurtigruten have announced the suspension of heir Alaska cruises due to Canadian Government restrictions have been suspended until the end of October and their Norwegian coastal cruises have been suspended until at least 15 June 2020.  Roald Amundsen cruises in North America are suspended until 13 September 2020.

 

Hurtigruten have introduced a flexible rebooking policy.  Guests whose cruises have been cancelled because of the temporary are offered a Future Cruise Voucher of 125% of what they have paid and will have a 10% discount on any future expedition or Norwegian Coastal cruise from July 1 to December 31 2021.

Even though not affected at this point by the suspension, guests booked on a Hurtigruten cruise through to 30 September 2020 are being offered the opportunity to rebook without having to pay a rebooking fee and will get a 10% discount on a future expedition or Norwegian Coastal Cruise for departures between 1 July 2020 and 31 December 2021.

 

CRUISE AND MARITIME VOYAGES

CMV extended the suspension of cruises until 25 August 2020. 

Those affected are offered a 125% Future Cruise Certificate, which is valid until 31 March 2021 redeemable against the best deal of the day and can be used on cruises for 2021 and 2022.  Those for whom a transfer is not feasible and those who prefer a refund can apply for a 100% refund and will process your request in accordance with ABTA guidance and this can take up to 90 to 120 days. If you booked via a travel agent you will need to contact your agent to request the refund.

If you are departing between 30 June 2020 and 31 August 2020 currently you can cancel your cruise up to 7 days before your departure and providing you have paid in full will receive a 125%  Future Cruise Certificate which must be used by 31 March 2021 for cruises up to December 2022.

The Terms and Conditions of the Future Cruise Credit are as follows.

Cruise must be paid in full by required date.

Once booked 100% cancellation fee will apply to the new booking.

New cruise must be the equivalent value of the original booking or higher.

If new booking is higher value than the original booking a supplement is payable.

One name change is permitted up to 14 days before the departure.

Future Cruise Credit does not apply to child and teenager fares.  Instead they get 50% discount for transfer bookings.

 

Marella Cruises and Tui River Cruises.

 

Tui / Marella have now cancelled all Marella Ocean Cruises up until and inclusive of 27 August 2020 on Marella Explorer and Explorer 2 and the Explorer 2 Electric Sunsets Cruise has been cancelled.  TUI  River Cruises until 26 November.  TUI have said they are contacting all guests who are affected however this may not be as quick as normally due to changes in the way they work and closure of their retail stores but have said they will be in touch with everyone as soon as they can.  Customers who booked with them online can change their holiday free of charge through the manage your booking facility.  Guests who booked through an agent or the retail TUI shops should wait for Tui to contact them to discuss the options available to them.

 

Guests affected by cancellations are being currently offered up to 120%  Cruise Credit or they can apply for a refund.

 

Windstar

Currently suspended until 3 September 2020.

 

Guests affected by the suspension can choose between a 100% refund or a 125% Future Cruise Credit and will have 24 months to rebook their holiday.

 

Silversea

 

Silversea have suspended operations until September 2020.  They are offering affected guests 125% Future Cruise Credit or 100% refund.

 

Tauck

 

Tauck have suspended all cruises through to 30 June 2020.  They are contacting guests affected by the cancelled cruises and offering guests options.

 

PRINCESS CRUISES

Princess Cruises have announced that they have now cancelled all remaining cruises in Alaska, Canada & New England and Europe cruises for the remainder of 2020. They have also cancelled all Australian through to mid September 2020 and Caribbean through to August 30 2020.  They have also cancelled all Japan Cruises through to October 1 2020 and their Taiwan Cruises in July.  They also cancelled all Autumn 2020 cruises to Tahiti & French Polynesia Cruises on Pacific Princess. They have also cancelled all round trips from San Francisco in September and October 2020.

Due to the expected volume of refund requests and because Princess have a large number of staff working from home and unable to access all the usual automation, it may take longer than normal to process. 

If you have paid the full amount of your holiday Princess Cruises have announced they are offering the following compensation. 

A Future cruise Credit worth 125% of your holiday and 100% refund on any ancillaries that you have purchased.

Or

A refund of 100% of cruise fare paid and 100% refund on any prepaid ancillaries.

If you have not paid the full amount then you have the following compensation options

A future cruise credit of 100% of the value of what you paid as a deposit plus an extra 100% bonus plus a refund of 100% of what you have paid for pre-purchased ancillaries.

Or

100% refund of deposit paid and 100% refund on pre-paid ancillaries.

 

HEBRIDEAN ISLAND CRUISES

 

They have suspended their cruises until 27 August 2020.

 

HOLLAND AMERICA LINE

Holland America line have announced they are cancelling all Alaska, Europe and Canada & New England cruises for 2020.  In addition the Amsterdam Grand Voyage from Boston to Fort Lauderdale on 3 October 2020 has been cancelled, in addition the Koningsdam Circle Hawaii cruises from San Diego on 16 January 2021 and 2 February 2021 have been cancelled too.

 

Holland America Line are offering the following compensation

If you have paid in full you have the choice of:

A Future Cruise Credit of 125% of the base cruise fare.

Or

Guests must apply before 15 June 2020 for a 100% refund

If you have not paid in full you have the following choices

A future Cruise Credit of double the amount of the deposit paid.  The minimum Future Cruise Credit is $100 and the maximum is the base cruise fare paid.

Or

Guests must apply before 15 June 2020 for a 100% refund

 

SEABOURN

Seabourn have announced they have extended their pause in operation. 

Seabourn Odyssey has cancelled its European operations until 30 November 2020/

Seabourn  Sojourn has cancelled its Alaska and British Columbia cruises through to 13 October 2020.

Seabourn Quest has cancelled its Canada and New England cruises through to 6 November 2020

Seabourn Encore has cancelled its European Cruises until 19 October 2020

Seabourn Ovation has cancelled its European cruises until 6 November 2020

Those guests affected who have paid the full amount will receive a 125% Future cruise credit.

Guests who have paid a deposit will have a 125% Future Cruise credit plus an on board credit of $300 per suite.

The future Cruise Credit is valid for 12 months but can be used to book a cruise which sails any time up to 31 December 2022.

 

Pulmantur

 

Pulmantur have suspended all sailings until 15 November 2020.

 

CLIA the trade association who represent the Cruise Lines and Cruise Industry have announced that their members are voluntarily suspending cruises to / from the United States until 15 September 2020.
